Live Like We're Dying

Live Like We're Dying
Artist: Kris Allen
Lyrics by Allen and others
Sometimes we fall down, can't get back up
We're hiding behind skin that's too tough
How come we don't say I love you enough?
'til it's too late

Our hearts are hungry for a food that won't come
And we could make a feast from these crumbs
And we're all staring down the barrel of a gun
So if your life flashed before you, what would you wish you would've done?

Yeah, we gotta look at the hands of time we've been given
If this is all we got, then we gotta start thinkin'
if every second counts on a clock that's tickin'
Gotta live like we're dying

And if your plane fell out of the skies
Who would you call with your last goodbye?
.....
....

You never know a good thing 'til it's gone
You never see a crash 'til it's head on
Why do we think we're right when we're dead wrong?
You never know a good thing 'til it's gone.
.....
.....

.....
.....
We gotta tell them that we love 'em
while we have the chance to say
Gotta live like we're dying

And when we are seriously ill, or have lived a long life; be not too late to become aware that it's all so short. Eighty years or more; some want to live 'forever'.  They want every medical treatment, every scrap of science to achieve this want, but what is it that they most need? What did they do with all their years? Over and over we are told, needs are small; wants are infinite. We all need food, clothing, shelter and loving affection. After all, each of us is a part of the whole, the one human family.

The intense feeling of being alive comes most clearly when we address real, true human needs; when we accomplish what is our life portion, and when we can say that we have done our part for the world in which we live. Drat old age; sometimes our only problem isn't our wants, but the ineluctible nature of truth. And that we don't always like it. Yet the truth remains. Live like you're dying.
